DC Abortion Fund(Raiser)

It’s a crazy time to get an abortion right now. It surprises me to even have to say that, considering it’s usually a crazy time to get an abortion, but with the current pandemic, abortion access is in danger. That’s why I’m asking for your donation to the DC Abortion Fund.

I know these are crazy times and asking for money feels extra-sensitive right now. However, funding abortion just as crucial for that same reason. And right now, a few generous donors have stepped up and offered to match all donations through April 30, up to $50,000.

As more and more states deem abortion as nonessential services the DMV will see an influx of patients traveling here to access care. The DMV boasts 2 of the 5 clinics in the country that will perform abortions throughout pregnancy–which will increase as pregnant people have to delay their care due to stay-at-home orders and anti-choice legislation. 

The DC Abortion Fund, where I currently volunteer, is one of the most robust in the country. Throughout this pandemic, DCAF volunteers have continued to answer calls on our helpline 24/7 — and as the COVID-19 pandemic worsens, we’re hearing from more people who need more help affording their abortions.

Many of our recent callers have mentioned that they’ve lost income, and case managers are trying to fill larger-than-normal funding gaps. We are hearing more anxiety from callers who feel they must find the money for their abortion procedure now, instead of delaying a week or two to cobble together more resources, because they worry that the clinic might not be open later.
